The curriculum in the Lower School offers a seamless transition from Pre-Prep. Many of the subjects continue to be delivered by class teachers, however, the number of specialist subject lessons increases. This helps the boys to become more independent and experience a variety of teachers and teaching styles whilst also enabling the reinforcement of a growth mindset in each boy.
Effective learning
Whilst subject knowledge remains an extremely important facet of the curriculum, the focus on skills and the continued incorporation of support for the development of characteristics of effective learning also has great emphasis. Each child is encouraged to greet challenges with open arms and utilise their more explicit learning skills to help them cope.
WOW days
English, Mathematics and Science schemes of work extend and challenge boys of this age. Continuing the topic-based teaching style from Pre-Prep, History and Geography are delivered through innovative topics which can also act as a focus for Art and Design and Technology through cross-curricular links. Examples of topics include ‘Attack!’, a focus on invaders of Britain through the ages, and ‘Under the Canopy’, an in-depth look into the Rainforests, Aztecs, as well as chocolate! Each topic is brought to life with unique ‘WOW’ experiences to inspire and enthuse each boy.
