Middle School Concert

Posted: 8th February 2017

The musicians in Middle School are to be congratulated on a splendid evening of music in the first major concert of 2017.

The Junior Orchestra has rarely sounded better and performed its three pieces with precision and poise.  How many school orchestras, of primary school age, could sport three double basses among its number?   Thanks go to Mr Turner for his leadership and a wonderfully crafted arrangement of Jurassic Park.  The Jazz Band’s contribution set toes a tapping with three wonderful pieces under Mr Coates’ energetic and infectious direction.  Mrs Hewitt-Jones continues to ensure that young string players are well-prepared for future participation in flagship groups.  The Year 5 Strings played two popular pieces and the Year 6 Trio impressed with a Handel March which had been part of the boys’ programme for the recent National Pro Corda Chamber Music Competition for Schools.  The ‘mighty’ Junior Concert Band brought the evening to a resounding conclusion.  Mr Street’s well-chosen programme included the theme to The Addams Family which not only showed the strength of our wind players in Middle School but also the versatility of our young percussionists.

The standard of music on display would have graced any concert platform involving children of a much greater age.  We look forward to the boys’ next major performance which comes later in the academic year.
