National Primary Schools Chess

Posted: 13th February 2019

chess

Last Saturday, no fewer than four U11 and three U9 Dulwich Prep London chess teams travelled to Anthony Roper school in Eynsford to do battle against other Kent schools in the zonal stage of the National Primary Schools Championship.   Far more than any other school, this turnout (and we would have taken more if allowed!) was a terrific achievement in itself, representative of just how popular chess is here.

It was a wonderful day with many playing their first competitive game of chess, and our A team highlighting the force we have become.  Our U9s finished equal 1st and our U11s were only nudged into the silver medal position by a mere half point, after scoring an impressive 20.5/25 and winning all of their matches. With plenty of talented young players coming through, the future looks very bright! Thanks to the accompanying parents for contributing to the team room’s lovely atmosphere. Next stop the semi-final stage and a May weekend at Camber Sands Pontins!
