Science and sewing in the Lower School

Posted: 23rd April 2021

The boys are back for the summer term and have been enjoying playing in the sunshine with their friends and getting stuck into their learning. It’s been fabulous to see how many boys have been cycling to school and making good use of our new Lower School bike sheds.

In DT, the boys have been mastering their sewing skills. They have begun by using pre-holed felt to sew together their colourful fish and then, once the basic running stitch has been mastered, they will move onto perfecting it (or for some, even learning a blanket stitch as they create their very own linen beach bag).

In science, the boys have been exploring ‘floating and sinking’.  They are developing their observation skills, along with their prediction and recording expertise. The big question that the boys were presented with today was “what if the sea was gloopy like ketchup?” They were asked to consider the consequences for all that floats and sinks in the ocean.
