Early Years held a Literacy Moderation evening for a number of schools in the local area including; Alleyns, Sydenham High, Streatham and Clapham High, Bickley Prep and Rosemead. We compared and discussed 4 samples of children’s writing and matched these to different statements within the EYFS including; the development matters statements, Early Learning Goals and the Exceeding Descriptors. We then shared children’s writing from the different schools. It was reassuring to see that all these schools have a similar approach to both writing and to understanding the EYFS. We also took the opportunity to show the teachers around the Early Years section. We hope that this will be the start of similar moderation meetings between our schools looking at other areas of the EYFS curriculum.
