Lower School Concerts

Posted: 12th June 2018

The boys in Lower School are to be congratulated on a tremendous pair of concerts which began the series of musical events that will take us to the close of the academic year.

The richness of tone from the String Orchestra, and also from the String Ensemble, was very impressive.  The Orchestra entertained with three pieces, including a dance around Scotland and Ireland, whilst the Ensemble had us dancing on ice with the Skaters’ Waltz.

Woodwind and brass players also had their moments.  Ably supported by our percussionists, the Woodwind Ensemble showed their progress with three pieces arranged by Miss Baker.  The Brass Band also gave a confident performance and were certainly ‘Ready to Rock’.  Some of the players in these groups (which have both grown significantly since January) include players who may still be in their first year of learning.  A real achievement.

Aidan Nagpaul impressed with a repeat of his Abrahams Piano Competition Class 3 winning performance.  Rarely does one hear such musicality at the keyboard from one so young.

The concert closed in fine style with two pieces from the Lower School Voices. The boys’ enthusiasm for singing is obvious and we heard part-singing that would challenge any choir.

The Lower School boys can be proud of their musical achievements this year and the concerts were the perfect opportunity to showcase the progress that has been made.

Bravo!
