Sailing the Solent

Posted: 21st June 2017

This past week, twenty year 8 boys had the opportunity to sail 74 foot Challenger yachts around the Solent.  The two yachts competed in an array of activities – from hoisting the mast to dinghy races in Lymington. The week culminated in a race where the boys had to put their tacking skills on display.

The beautiful weather enhanced our adventures, as we dropped anchor and took dinghies into Studland Bay where some boys took the opportunity to swim and enjoy the view of Old Harry.  The low winds and sunshine gave boys the chance to brave the challenge of climbing the 98 foot mast and enjoy the views from its peak.

The boys demonstrated teamwork and discipline when put to the test.  They had to brave cold nights during our night sail and anchor watch – when boys took turns on deck with a watch leader to ensure the yacht did not move.

A brilliant experience had by all – we look forward to next year’s adventure!
