Year 7 Residential trip to the Lake District

Posted: 23rd June 2016

With perfect timing, it being the week following the end of year exams, the whole of Year 7 set off for their residential trip to Glenridding in the Lake District for a week of challenging but fun outdoor activities.

The weather decided to challenge us from the outset, with the heavens opening as we pulled into the car park, but all boys faced the conditions in great spirits and we headed off for our accommodation, be it a roll mat under canvas or a bunk bed in a youth hostel dorm.

Fortunately, the weather improved and the majority of the rest of the week was bathed in sunshine while the boys undertook various activities such as rock-climbing, abseiling, kayaking and canoeing, as well as the small feat of jumping off a lofty rock into the lake below. Each day the boys also prepared their own breakfasts and lunches and cooked their own dinners.

The most challenging task, no doubt, was the day’s hike to the summit of Helvellyn, which all boys managed to achieve, a real compliment to their determination and spirit.

It must be said that as a year group they confronted all the challenges they faced with a fantastic attitude and positivity and worked incredibly well as a team and they most certainly did The Prep proud. Well done boys, a great end to Year 7!
