Year 8 salute Shakespeare in Style

Posted: 10th May 2016

Under the watchful guidance of our Director of Drama, Benji Sperring, the boys of 8H have spent the past two weeks putting together a programme of ‘historical, tragical, comical and pastoral’ theatrical sketches which pay homage to The Bard, in this year of celebration of the man and his works.

The creative efforts of this motley troupe of actors culminated in a fabulous presentation on Friday evening before an appreciative audience of family members, friends and staff.  The performance was remarkable as much for its rich diversity of material as it was for the sensitivity of portrayal, individual and collective, evident in the depth of understanding that was apparent in each arresting piece.

Extracts from as many as eight of his plays and three of his sonnets were cleverly woven together with exquisitely selected scenes from The Lion King, The Two Ronnies, Victoria Wood and Rowan Atkinson in a bewitching pastiche of entertainment that left those who were privileged to see it spellbound that such excellence had been achieved in such a short space of time.
